Our teeth start erupting at 6 months of age. These are the first set of teeth or milk teeth. Milk teeth are later replaced by permanent teeth which begin appearing by 6 years of age. Cavities and tooth decay are common in children, and unless detected and treated in the early stages can result in irreversible dental problems including infection in the teeth, gums and tooth loss.

Having a healthy mouth gives children a better chance of having good overall health. Poor oral health often interferes with a child’s  ability to eat, sleep well, speak properly, and maintain a positive self-image. According to the American dental association every child should get their first dental check up by their first birthday .  This not only helps in early detection and prevention of dental problems but also instills dental awareness in the child.
